Bangles are distinct from bracelets for their solid circular shape. They are one of the oldest jewellery items across the globe, with the fashion spreading from Asia to Greece and the Mediterranean. But in 17th century Europe there was a Hellenic revival that saw bracelets gain a high-cultural prominence that persisted through the Victorian era and to this day.
