9ct Victorian Bloodstone and Carnelian Swivel Fob

Theories abound on the meaning of Bloodstone which is characterized by its dark green colour with red flecks naturally running through it. One theory is that it has the ability to purify the blood and protect the wearer from harm. Another is that it represents the blood spilt on the battlefields of medieval Scotland, from where it originates. Carnelian is associated with courage, vitality and passion.

This large swivel fob is set in 9ct gold, with carnelian to one side and bloodstone the other, and would typically been worn on a watch chain, serving both a decorative and functional purpose. The swivel feature of the fob allowed the wearer to easily flip the stone to reveal either side, depending on their preference or the symbolism they wanted to convey. The rich colours and patterns of the stones adds a touch of elegance and sophistication.
