18ct Gold Masonic Pendant

Whilst the exact origins of the Masonic order are unclear, it is believed to have evolved from the medieval stonemason guilds that were responsible for building the great cathedrals and castles of Europe. They became a formal organisation in the early 18th century, when the Grand Lodge of England was established in 1717. From there the Masonic Order spread throughout Europe and eventually the world. The organisation is based on the principles of brotherly love, relief and truth, and members are encouraged to live virtuous and charitable lives.

This 18ct Yellow gold fob or pendant features some interesting enamel engravings, with the Star of David, the Masonic compass and the Eye of Providence, or the All-Seeing Eye, often interpreted as a reminder to members to conduct themselves with honesty and integrity, knowing that they are always being observed by a divine presence. The reverse is equally interesting with engraved enamelled images in patriotic red, white and blue depicting medieval and religious scenes.
A hefty 12.3g and 30mm in length.
