9ct Gold Antique Seal

A nostalgic piece from a bygone era. 9ct gold with a bloodstone base, with letters JRE. Height: 24mm Weight: 6.7g

In Victorian times, a fob seal was used to secure and authenticate documents and letters. They often had a personalised design or monogram engraved into the base, such as this one which bares the initials JRE in a scripty font. The user would melt a small amount of sealing wax onto the document or letter and then press the seal into the wax. Fob seals were commonly used by those of high social status as a way to add a personal touch to their correspondence and to prevent unauthorised access to their private letters.

A wonderful collectable or interesting pendant.
