The Origin of The Hours Ring

The concept for the Hours Ring was borne in the early 2000’s when Marianne, founder of Victoria & Albert Antiques was in the store, engrossed in a book of historic antique rings.

One ring really stood out, a five band ring, with French script on two of the bands bearing the words Les Heures sont roses a qui sait aimer, translating to The Hours are Happy (rosy) for those who know how to love”  – an excerpt from a song sang in France in the 18th and 19th centuries entitled Le Chanson des Heures.

So, in love with the sentiment, the next two years were spent working with a local jeweller to perfect the script and the engraving and sourcing the best stones to compliment the creation. Although the original ring was made with pearls, Marianne believed diamonds would suit the needs of buyers in the 21st century and beyond and so a diamond band was developed and now our clients can choose which centre band suits them best.

The result is this wonderful five stacking band.  The two scripted rings appear to be enamel, but are in fact unpolished gold, the accidental but welcome outcome of the ring making process, eliminating the worry of chipping or damage.  The two outer bands are hand engraved with delicate scroll work and at the heart of this ring, your choice of precious diamonds or pearls.
