Ring – Gold Shakudo
The characters in the name shaku-dō mean “red” and “copper” and combined they represent a material which begins with a darkened coppery-bronze colour and is then modified to black or near-black. After the disbursement of the Samurai in the 19th Century, sword makers turned their attention to jewellery, using parts from Japanese weaponry to create these wonderful avant garde pieces.
This is a gold and silver ring, featuring a fierce looking Samurai wielding a sword, set in to its final yellow gold home probably in the late 19th century.
