Sold – Mexican Fire Opal Necklace
A 19th Century French made Mexican Fire Opal Necklace with matching Ring and Earrings. The gold scroll work brings out the rich colour of the fire opals. Seeing these pieces moving under light sets everyone aflame.
Mexican fire opals as the name suggests were first discovered in Mexico. During the opal rush in Queretaro between 1965 and 1975 fire opals were so plentiful they were sold by the sackful. Today quality Mexican fire opals are incredibly hard to find and other countries like Ethiopia and our own Australia provide a small but reliable source of fire opals. Unlike other opals, fire opals can come in transparent form and this means they are sometimes faceted to capture and refract the light.
